University of Huddersfield Professor Visits KIBU Researchers for a Partnership in Clean Energy Project

A Professor of Turbocharger Engineering, Department of Engineering and Technology School of Computing and Engineering in the University of Huddersfield Professor Prof. John Allport visited Kibabii University on Tuesday 6th December, 2022. He was representing a team of partners whose mission is to partner with KIBU researchers for a joint project on eco-friendly biomass fuel from sugarcane waste. The partners expressed interest in the project after they went through a concept that was presented by Dr. Abuya Joshua Olang’o and Dr. Jonathan Mutonyi during the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations (WAITRO) Global Research Summit 2022, held in Cape Town, South Africa between 12th and 15th November, 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa. The concept received a WAITRO Impact Certificate on Sustainable Development Goals attracting a cash award of USD 3000. This was a follow-up of a previous engagement on the WAITRO Capacity Building Workshop held in Barcelona, Spain from 17th to 19th June, 2022.

The project considers conversion of sugarcane bagasse to charcoal briquettes with a possibility of cogeneration of electricity for the rural community.
