The 2024 Kibabii University SOKU Football Tournament came to an end on Monday 12th 2024 after an exciting week of scintillating football matches that pitted a total of 14 teams all competing for the coveted trophy. The annual tournament organised by the Kibabii University Students Governing Council started on 5th February 2024 after being officially opened by the Deputy Dean of Students Mr. Cyprian Lusweti, Games Officer Mr. Tom Amwanzo, the Secretary General of the Students Governing Council Mr. Patrick Chelule and other Students leaders.
Speaking during the opening ceremony the Deputy Dean of Students requested the students to cooperate in making the tournament a success and play peacefully. He thanked the SOKU leadership for sparing resources for purposes of fostering comradeship through sports and that the Office of Students Affairs is available to support such noble initiatives that foster unity within the Kibabii community.
The high number of teams that participated in this year’s tournament was evidence of the success the tournament had achieved. Among the teams that participated in this year’s edition were Catalans FC, Zoo FC, Boma FC, Young Rovers, Unity FC and Rangers FC among others. The final match saw Unity FC locking horns with Rangers FC, a match that attracted a record crowd of jubilant supporters. The hotly contested final witnessed Unity FC beating Rangers FC by two goals to nil.
The best teams in various categories were awarded trophies and money prices. The tournament which is organised every year serves the objectives of social integration, nurturing talent and a precursor to the annual cultural week.
