Kibabii University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Donald Siamba Namasaka today gave a donation of fabricated outdoor tables and benches to the University Management. The project which is his own initiative was developed in conjunction with Donana Limited. The benches are fabricated from broken plastic chairs, wasted ceramic tiles, old barbed wires and assorted pieces of construction waste materials.
The donation, currently installed at the University gardens was officially received by the Vice Chancellor Professor Isaac Odero Ipara accompanied by the Registrar (Academic Affairs) Professor Ernest Mohochi.
According to Prof. Siamba, the project costs approximately Kes. 13,000 to construct a set of four (4) chairs and a reading table. He highlighted the importance of the facility most notable being the reduction of transfer of chairs by students which costs the University due to breakages and theft. He also indicated the importance of ensuring proper utilization of waste materials. The project comes at a time when the University has expanded its internet connectivity to more recreational spots that will see students complement their academic activities with enhanced outdoor experience.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the project stating that the facility will provide a cool and conducive environment for relaxation by students and staff which will promote good mental health. He called upon stakeholders of goodwill to support the initiative by escalating the project to reach communities and other corporate organizations.
