KIBU Computer Science student wins Silver at the WorldSkills (Kenya) National Competition

Clinton Otieno Ochieng, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Science student emerged 2nd in the “Network Systems Administration Skills Category” at the just concluded WorldSkills Kenya National Competition held at the Kenya School of TVET between 28th August – 1st September, 2023. Under the mentorship of his Lecturer Dr. Yonah Etene, the student joins other winners that will represent Kenya during the WorldSkills International Competition that will be held in Lyon, France in September 2024.

The Competition brought together more than 100 young professionals to tackle 16 skill set areas that were carefully chosen basing on private sector needs. It provides a great opportunity for learners to showcase technical skills that promote vocational education. This event was held in collaboration with Ministry of Education, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other esteemed partners such as HUAWEI. The Government, particularly the Ministry of Education, provides policy support, funding, and infrastructure to facilitate skills development programs. Industry partners like HUAWEI assist in aligning training with market needs to ensure graduates are job-ready.

In the run up to the Nationals, Mr. Ochieng participated in the regional level competition that was held in Kisumu, in December, 2022.

We laud him for this great achievement as he contributes to our efforts in steering National and International development through knowledge and skills development.
