Kibabii University has embarked on a review of its ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) Standard Operating Procedures in a workshop being held at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) from 17th to 19th February, 2025. The workshop, organized by the Coordinator, ISO Standards Ms. Sophy Nekoye Waliaula and facilitated by a Lead Auditor from SGS Ltd. Mr. Lawrence Lusiola, brings together all the University ISO Auditors with the aim of enhancing the University’s compliance with ISO standards in preparation for recertification later this year.
The event commenced with welcoming remarks from the Host Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, who warmly received the Kibabii University team. Prof. Shibairo is a former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) at Kibabii University. He reaffirmed the strong ties between the two universities and expressed his confidence in Kibabii’s commitment to quality and excellence.
During the workshop, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Prof. Joshua Ogendo, emphasized the importance of embracing change and maintaining a steadfast commitment to completing all necessary documentation. He underscored that continuous improvement is essential in meeting the ever-evolving standards of ISO QMS.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research, and Innovation), Prof. Julius Kiprop Maiyo, who has been a longtime proponent for the ISO standardization highlighted that the review process is an integral part of the University’s preparation for recertification. He acknowledged the dynamic nature of the ISO certification process, noting that Kibabii University has successfully adapted to numerous changes, including technological advancements, structural realignments, and legal amendments. He commended the University’s proactive approach in ensuring seamless transitions and compliance with new requirements.
The Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration, Finance, and Development), Prof. Joshua Abuya, officially opened the workshop, expressing gratitude to the University management for its unwavering support in facilitating the auditors’ training. He emphasized the importance of institutional commitment to upholding quality standards and ensuring that the University remains at the forefront of best practices while delivering its mandate.
The workshop will play a vital role to comprehensively review the University’s ISO QMS, addressing non-conformities and observations raised during the 2024 surveillance audit, setting a strong foundation for a successful recertification in 2025.
