KIBU Athletes Dominate as the University Hosts KUSF and Athletics Kenya Track and Field Event

The Kenya University Sports Federation (KUSF) and Athletics Kenya (AK) held a successful track and field event at Kibabii University on Saturday, 28th, and Sunday, 29th September 2024. Themed “Nurturing Talents for Livelihood and Sustainability through Sports,” the event brought together athletes from nine universities in an exciting competition that showcased emerging talents.

The athletic event featured a variety of track and field competitions, including the Javelin, Shot Put, Discus, 4x100m Mixed Relay, 4x400m Mixed Relay, 100m, 200m, 400m, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, and 800m races. Participating universities included Kibabii University, Kenyatta University, Maseno University, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), University of Eldoret, Rongo University, University of Embu, Kisii University, and Mount Kenya University. The event was managed by various officials, led by Chair of the Technical Committee WEKUSA and Kibabii University’s Coach, Mr. Tom Amwanzo.

Kibabii University performed exceptionally well, emerging as the top university overall in the track events. The women’s team secured second place, with MMUST taking the lead, while the men’s team finished third, following Maseno University and the University of Embu.

The event was attended by the Vice Chancellor of Kibabii University, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics and Student Affairs), Prof. John Makokha, and the Acting Dean of Students, Dr. Nasongo Benson.
