On 24th October, 2024, Kibabii University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the County Government of Trans Nzoia to enhance cultural and educational collaboration. This partnership will spearhead the creation of the Ken Walibora Corner at Kitale Museum, a dedicated space to promote local languages and preserve Kenya’s cultural heritage. The collaboration will involve joint initiatives in research, capacity building, consultancies, and cultural events to celebrate the country’s diverse cultural landscape.
The Kibabii University delegation, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, was received by H.E. Governor George Natembeya.
In his remarks, Prof. Ipara honored the late Walibora, describing him as a literary icon whose works stood alongside those of global literary giants such as Shakespeare, Wole Soyinka, and Shaban Roberts. A renowned author of novels, short stories, and translations, Prof. Walibora was also a prominent journalist and news anchor, a radio show host, and a widely recognized public intellectual.
“There is no better way to commemorate this great man,” Prof. Ipara remarked, reflecting on Walibora’s enduring legacy in literature and culture.
Governor Natembeya embraced the partnership, highlighting its timely significance to the County.
“Trans Nzoia is proud to be one of the first counties in Kenya to fully embrace the devolved function of museums and cultural preservation. We believe that the establishment of the Ken Walibora Corner and a University College under Kibabii University’s mentorship will inspire a culture of reading and learning among our people,” he said.
