Kibabii University and Walkabout Foundation Partner to Donate a Free Wheelchair to KIBU Student

Kibabii University recognizes Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) as a distinct group whose needs, capacities and aspirations require special attention as per the provisions of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. The KIBU Disability Mainstreaming Committee articulates the University’s commitment to the provisions of equitable opportunities to all persons with disabilities, and ensures that their life on campus is fulfilling and rewarding.

In this regard, on Friday the 29th of March 2024, the Walkabout Foundation in partnership with KIBU’s Disability Mainstreaming Committee donated a free wheelchair to one of our students, Mr. Kevin Ochieng’. The donation was done at the Office of the Governor, Bungoma County. Walkabout Foundation is a charity that provides wheelchairs for people with mobility disabilities around the world and funds spinal cord injury research.

Mr. Ochieng’ is a third year student at Kibabii University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology. Overseeing the handing over of the wheelchair was Kibabii University’s Disability Mainstreaming Committee Chairperson, Dr. Felix Ayioka Orina, in the company of Susan Wafula, a Senior Nursing Officer at Kibabii University’s Health Services Department.
