Duties and Responsibilities for Teaching Staff
- To contribute towards the achievement of the Mission and Vision of the University;

Requirements for Appointment
Senior Lecturer
Applicants should have:-
- An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification (Or a Master’s degree qualification in special cases) in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university;
- At least three (3) years of teaching experience at university level as a Lecturer or six (6) research or in industry experience;
- A minimum of thirty two (32) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent of which at least twenty four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals;
- Supervised at least three (3) post graduate students to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent;
- Registered with the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
LECTURER
For appointment to the position of Lecturer, one must have:
- An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from accredited and recognized/ university, and be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable) OR
Master’s Degree in relevant field from an accredited and recognized university (in special cases) with at least three (3) years teaching experience at university level or in research or in industry, and
- A minimum of 24 publication points of which at least 16 should be from refereed journals papers, and;
- Registered with the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
TUTORIAL FELLOW
Applicants should have:-
- Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in relevant field
- Be registered for Doctorate Degree Studies

ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS
KIBU/ADM/01/04/2018: REGISTRAR (ADMINISTRATION AND HUMAN RESOURCE) – SCALE 15 (Re advertisement)
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Development), the Registrar (Administration and Human Resources) shall on the overall be responsible for the supervision and management of all administrative and operational functions of the Office of the Registrar (Administration and Human Resources).
The Registrar shall:
- Coordinate training and development programmes of staff in the University and ensuring their implementation;
- Determine equitable monetary and non-monetary remuneration of employees in the University considering legal and statutory provisions;
- Ensure proper health and safety working conditions as provided for in applicable laws;
- Ensure smooth and efficient operations of the Personnel, Central and Blue Registries;
- Ensure safe custody and maintenance personnel and other records;
- Ensure industrial peace in the University by helping in collective bargaining, joint consultations and settlement of disputes;
- Ensure processing of staff engagement/disengagement is done in accordance with the approved policies;
- Advise top management on formulation and evaluation of human resource programmes, policies and procedures;
- Provide advice to heads of departments regarding manpower planning, job analysis, design, recruitment and selection of staff;
- Provide Secretariat services to committees of University Management Board and Senate where applicable; and
- Exercise such other powers, perform such other duties, and discharge such other official functions as are assigned to him/her by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor/authorized officer or are prescribed by the policies and regulations of the University.
- Shall be a member of Senate and University Management Board
- Secretary to the University Management Board
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this position, the Registrar Administration and Human Resources Must have a Ph.D in relevant area and must have relevant work experience of at least twelve (12) years of which at least three (3) years as a Deputy Registrar Administration Scale 14 or its equivalent.
Terms
The incumbent shall hold office on a contract period of five (5) years but may be eligible for reappointment for a further one term in accordance with terms and conditions of service as approved by the Council from time to time.
KIBU/ADM/02/04/2018: UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN – SCALE 15 – 1 POST (Re-advertisement)
Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Students Affairs), the University Librarian shall on the overall be responsible for the supervision and management of all administrative and operational functions of the Office of the University Librarian.
The University Librarian shall:
- Be the custodian of academic resources of the University;
- Regularly review academic resources and submit a report;
- Make proposals for development of library policies;
- Ensure implementation of Library policy;
- Coordinate all the Library services in the University;
- Prepare and submit proposals for acquisition of library materials;
- Acquire and conserve library research materials;
- Be responsible for the organization and operation of library services;
- Adoption and adherence to library standards;
- Manage the provision of conducive reading space for library users;
- Establish and facilitate the use of the e-Library;
- Facilitate the networking and exchange of materials with other libraries locally and internationally;
- Make proposals for acquisition and conservation of library research materials;
- Promote provision of library support services;
- Undertaking such other official assignments as may be assigned from time to time by the Vice-Chancellor or his/her authorized officer.

The University Librarian shall be a Ph.D holder in Library and Information Sciences or its equivalent. In addition he/she should have at least three (3) years of experience as Deputy Librarian or relevant field.

KIBU/ADM/03/04/2018: DEPUTY UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN – SCALE 14 – 1 POST Reporting to the University Librarian, the Deputy University Librarian shall on the overall assist in the supervision and management of all administrative and operational functions of the Office of the University Librarian.
The Deputy University Librarian shall:
- Help in providing custodial services to academic resources of the University;
- Regularly review academic resources and submit reports to the University Librarian
- Make proposals for development of library policies
- Implement Library Policy
- Assist in coordination of all the library services in the University
- Assist in preparation of proposals for acquisition of library materials;
- Manage the provision of conducive reading space for library users;

- A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences or its equivalent with 12 years working experience 3 of which as Senior Assistant Librarian Scale 13 or its equivalent.
- Registered with relevant professional body.

KIBU/ADM/04/04/2018: PROCUREMENT OFFICER – SCALE 12 – 1 POST
Duties and responsibilities at this level will involve: Management of Purchasing/Supplies and Stock Control activities in their areas of operation; coordinating purchasing and supplies activities in the University; supervising staff in the department; ensuring proper keeping of records and smooth flow of documents within the department and other departments of the University; receiving requisitions from users for purchase of goods and services and confirming correct specifications and deliveries requested; requesting for quotations or tenders from the suppliers; evaluating received quotations or tenders; placing orders or arrange for contracts with selected suppliers and monitor deliveries to ensure supplies do arrive as promised (order progressing); checking received supplies and ensure they are correct to specifications and in good condition; counter checking suppliers’ invoice with original quotations or tender documents and ensure original terms have been adhered to.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, applicants must have:
- Master’s Degree in Procurement and Supplies with 6 years working experience 3 of which as a Procurement/Supplies Officer Scale 11 or its equivalent. OR Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Supplies Management with 12 years working experience 3 of which as a Procurement/Supplies Officer Scale 11 or its equivalent.
- Registration with the relevant professional body.

KIBU/ADM/05/04/2018: TECHNICIAN – SCALE 5 (COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT) – 1 POST
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify materials and equipment and oversee the process of securing them for the department for practicals and research in the department.
- Carry out guided research and act as a participant in the research projects in the department.
- Participate in preparations of laboratory manuals using other appropriate media within and without the department.
- Ensure quality practicals and research is carried out.
- Participate in the designing, development and delivery of arrange of practicals at various levels within the University.
- Participate in the review of practical manuals and materials on a regular basis, updating when required within the departments to align them with market programme needs.
- Participate in the development and application of innovative, appropriate practical delivery/demonstration techniques and materials that create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students in the department for effective learning and teaching.
- Transfer practical skills, methods and techniques to students and other stakeholders in the department.
- Ensure that practicals design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the university and department.
- Supervise student projects, field trips and where appropriate industrial placements and Industrial training to equip students with on job training and skills.

KIBU/ADM/06/04/2018: SENIOR TECHNICIAN III – SCALE 8 (INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT) – 1 POST
Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in the design, development and delivery of a range of IT practicals at various levels within the University.
- Participate in the review of IT practical manuals and materials on a regular basis, updating when required within the departments to align them with market programme needs.
- Participate in the development and application of innovative and appropriate IT practical, delivery /demonstration techniques and materials that create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students in the department for effective learning and teaching.
- Transfer IT practical skills, methods and techniques to students and other stakeholders in the department.
- Ensure that IT practicals design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the university and the department.
- Supervise students computing projects, field trips and where appropriate, industrial placements and Industrial training to equip students with on job training and skills.
- To test for competency among students and the level of computing knowledge required.
- Ensure that the IT practicals content and methods of delivery are in accordance with equal opportunities, and respond to issues relating to staff and student needs.
- Participate in determining relevant research objectives and prepare research practicals for the department.
- Identify materials and equipment and oversee the process of securing them for the department for practicals and research in the department.
- Carry out guided research and act as a participant in the research in projects in the department.
- Participate in writing or contribute to preparations of laboratory manuals using other appropriate media within and without the department.
- Act as a referee and contribute to peer assessment of other technicians within the department, and ensure that quality practicals and research is carried out.

For appointment to this grade, one must have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in IT/Computer Science/Computer Technology/Computer Engineering.
- Higher National Diploma in IT/Computer Science/Computer Technology/Computer Engineering with three (3) years’ working experience.
- Diploma in IT/Computer Science/Computer Technology/Computer Engineering with nine (9) years working experience 3 of which as Technician Scale 7 or its equivalent.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Officer shall:

- Be in charge of the Media Studio
- Be custodian of Journalism and Mass Communication Department equipment
- Perform any other official duties as assigned by the Chairperson of Department or any other designated officer.

- Carry out repair and maintenance of water reticulation systems.
- Carry out construction of new water and sewerage lines in the University
- Monitor and maintain water system equipment in the University.

- Construction of electrical systems in the University minor projects.
