Kibabii University’s Dr. Patrick Owoche, alongside Technical University of Kenya’s Dr. George Opondo Obiero and Dr. Victor Aliata from Tom Mboya University, has secured a prestigious grant from the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Supporting Research Community. This award is in recognition of their outstanding proposal for media training, which aims to enhance the skills of early and mid-career researchers.
The grant worth 1,000 British pounds (£1,000) is part of the Supporting Research Community Training Grants program, that enables staff at ACU member universities to develop and provide training programs. Dr. Owoche’s initiative focuses on media training, a critical area for researchers who need to effectively communicate their work to non-academic audiences.
The project is designed to impart essential skills such as presentation, public engagement, and digital media proficiency, equipping participants to succeed both in academia and other professional fields.
This project not only reflects Dr. Owoche’s dedication to advancing educational methods but also aligns with Kibabii University’s goals of promoting research excellence and innovation. Working with his peers brings a broad perspective to the project, enhancing its potential impact across various research disciplines. An important requirement of the grant is to share the results of the training with other ACU member universities. This will promote the spread of knowledge and best practices, supporting the ACU’s aim of fostering international collaboration.
