Improving university webometric performance has become an indisputable issue in the increasingly competitive environment. Universities strive to improve their own standing in the league table. Kibabii University had a webometric benchmarking visit to University of Nairobi, Technical University of Kenya and Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology on 13th -14th February, 2020 with the aim of improving the University’s web presence. The KIBU team was represented by Adeline Mukanda and Dorcus Kosgei.
During the visits, the KIBU team was informed on various aspects that play a significant role in achieving better webometric ranking. These are:
- Website strategies
- Policies
- University management buy-in
- Reliable internet connection and hosting
- Dedicated staff for the website and
- Collaborations with external networks among others
At the University of Nairobi in attendance were: Mr. Paul Kariuki – ICT Director, Dr. Caroline Kiptoo – Deputy Director MIS, Mrs. Josephine Ndung’u – Project Leader MIS, Dr. Yohannis Almaz – Manager ICT maintenance, Mr. Joram Kinuthia – Deputy Director Network Infrastructure Services, Mr. Joseph Muchina – Deputy Director User Support Services and Ms. Susan Muchina – ICT Administrator.
At Technical University of Kenya in attendance were: Mr. Derrick Osiro – Director ICT and Mr. John Juma – Web master.
At Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology in attendance were: Prof. Stephen Kimani – Director ICT, Mr. Kipkorir Sang – Web master and Mr. Arthur Wainaina.
