Two Honorary Degrees and Honourable Delegations Decorated the 7th Graduation

Kibabii University celebrated its 7th Graduation on Friday 3rd March, 2023 with 1113 graduates being conferred with degrees and certificates.

Among those conferred were the National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula and the CEO Stanbic Bank Kenya and South Sudan Mr. Joshua Nyamweya Oigara who were both awarded honorary degrees of Doctor of Humane Letters by Kibabii University.

The Awards were conferred by the Chairman of Council Dr. Ernest Mwangi Njoroge on behalf of the Chancellor, in a Ceremony graced by the Principal Secretary, State Department of Higher Education and Research Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala.

The University recognized the outstanding achievements and distinguished contribution of Hon. Wetangula to the advancement of humanity and in particular; the commitment to promotion of social peace, defense of human rights, community empowerment and advancement of selfless public service. He is highly celebrated as part of the strongest pillars that realized the establishment of Kibabii University since its inception as a constituent college of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

In his acceptance speech, Speaker Wetang’ula said he was humbled for the gesture and thanked the management of the Kibabii University for the incredible honour. He promised to continue supporting the University in achieving its growth and expansion plans.

“This honour is not just a reflection of my personal achievements, but it is also a holding of true to the hard work and dedication of many individuals who have supported and inspired me through my journey this far,” he said.

On his part, CPA Joshua Nyamweya Oigara, a renowned business manager, was celebrated as a   trailblazer of innovations in industry and winner of countless awards during his   illustrious career in management and leadership in the private and public sector spanning over 25 years during which period he oversaw critical and significant transformation. As a real captain of the industry, CPA Oigara was recognized for the bold and demonstrable accomplishments as a professional, a family man, a mentor, a leader and a philanthropist that his nomination is rested upon.

Currently, the University runs an endowment fund to support needy students. It stands at KES 10 million. In his acceptance, CPA Oigara pledged an additional KES 10 million towards supporting the Fund.

Among the notable figures in attendance during the Ceremony were The Governor Bungoma County H.E. Kenneth Lusaka. The Governor, currently serving his 2nd term pledged to fast track the allocation of 100 acres of land to the University as a way of allowing the introduction of new academic programmes that will be more beneficial to the community. He also promised to upscale the security situation around the University by opening new feeder roads and enhancing the security lighting situation.

The  Ceremony was also graced by the Senator, Bungoma County Hon. David Wakoli, Principal Secretaries Prof. Edward Kisiangani and his counterpart Dr. Juma Mukhwana. Also, in attendance were elected Members of Parliament across Western including; Hon. John Makali (Kanduyi), Hon. Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Hon. Geoffrey Odanga (Nambale), Hon. Jack Wamboka (Bumula), Hon. Maurice Kakai (Kiminini), Hon. Dr. John Chikati (Tongaren), Hon. John Waluke (Sirisia), as well as Hon. Tim Wanyonyi (Westalnds) and Hon. Peter Salasya of Mumias East Conituency.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo noted and acknowledged the support and promised prudent utilization of any donations from philanthropists and the Government of Kenya.
