The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Board, under the leadership of the Dean, Prof. Robert Kati, held a Capacity Building Seminar for Chairpersons of Departmental Graduate Studies Committees, Faculty/School Graduate Studies Committees, as well as members of the SGS Board on Thursday, 12th March 2026, at the Senate Boardroom. The capacity-building initiative is part of the University’s continuous efforts to enhance service delivery in postgraduate studies and to promote the timely completion of graduate programmes.
The seminar was graced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Prof. Joshua Ogendo, who represented the Vice Chancellor. In his remarks, he lauded the SGS Board for its efforts in streamlining the operations of postgraduate studies at the University. He also urged participants to exercise diligence when supervising postgraduate students and to strictly adhere to ethical research and supervision practices.
Speaking during the seminar, Prof. Robert Kati appreciated the Committee Chairpersons for their commitment and dedication in processing graduate students’ matters and ensuring that postgraduate academic processes run smoothly.
The seminar featured presentations from several facilitators. Prof. Duncan Wasike guided participants on the duties and responsibilities of the various Graduate Studies Committees, while Dr. Henry Nandelenga took participants through the guidelines for reviewing research proposals. Sr. Dr. Jacklyne Alari facilitated the plenary session, providing an opportunity for discussion and clarification on key postgraduate processes.
