Prof. Mohochi Delivers a Culture Talk to Strengthen Institutional Values

Kibabii University on 26th June 2026 hosted an engaging Institutional Culture Talk aimed at strengthening institutional values and fostering organizational transformation. The virtual event, organized by the Centre for Language and Cultural Studies (CLACS), focused on the critical role of institutional culture in shaping organizational success and advancing the University’s vision for excellence.

The session was facilitated by the Director of CLACS, Prof. Ernest Mohochi, who explored the significance of institutional culture as a foundation for sustainable growth. He described institutional culture as the shared values, beliefs, customs, and practices that define an institution’s identity and influence behaviour, decision-making, collaboration, and innovation among members of the organization.

Drawing insights from countries such as Japan and China, Prof. Mohochi demonstrated how strong cultural values have played a pivotal role in driving national and organizational development. He highlighted the importance of aligning institutional strategies with a supportive organizational culture, noting that meaningful transformation can only be achieved when strategic plans are reinforced by shared values and collective commitment.

Prof. Mohochi recognized Kibabii University’s recent achievement as Kenya’s most productive university, attributing the milestone to the institution’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. He encouraged staff to continue embracing professionalism, teamwork, integrity, accountability, and creativity as key pillars for sustained institutional growth.

The session also highlighted Kibabii University’s strengths, including its highly qualified workforce, increasing confidence among prospective students, and a growing institutional brand. The emergence of leaders nurtured within the University’s system was cited as a reflection of effective leadership development and a strong institutional foundation.

Staff were challenged to actively promote a positive work culture by rejecting practices that undermine institutional progress, including dishonesty, poor time management, workplace inefficiency, negative ethnicity, complacency, and misuse of working hours. Prof. Mohochi emphasized that eliminating such practices is essential in building a productive, ethical, and values-driven institution.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, who graced the occasion, urged staff to take personal responsibility in building a culture of excellence through their daily actions and professional conduct. He emphasized that institutional culture is shaped not only by policies and structures but also by the attitudes, commitment, and behaviour of every member of staff.

Prof. Odeo commended the CLACS Directorate for organizing the timely forum and appreciated Prof. Mohochi for delivering an insightful and thought-provoking presentation. He encouraged staff to remain confident in their abilities and recognize their collective role in advancing Kibabii University’s journey towards greater excellence and impact.
