Kisii University Staff Benchmark Lactation Centre at Kibabii University

On 3rd October 2024, Kibabii University had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from Kisii University in a benchmarking exercise aimed at establishing a lactation centre at their institution. The three-member team from Kisii University was warmly received by Dr. Rispah Wepukhulu, Director of the Institute of Gender and Development Studies (IGDS), alongside Mr. Onex Opati, the Coordinator of IGDS, at Kibabii University.

The lactation centre at Kibabii University, a fully functional and well-equipped facility, caters to the needs of both students and staff, providing a safe and supportive environment for breastfeeding mothers. This facility was developed through a collaborative effort between the Human Resources Department and the Institute of Gender and Development Studies, showcasing Kibabii University’s commitment to gender-responsive policies and the well-being of its community.

During the visit, Dr. Ruth Mitalo, the Registrar, Administration and Human Resources at Kibabii University, gave an in-depth presentation on the processes and key considerations involved in establishing the lactation centre. The team from Kisii University was taken through the intricacies of planning, budgeting, and maintaining such a facility to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability.
