KIBU’S Donation to Kenya Prisons Service Will Support the Welfare of Reforming Convicts

In an endeavour to extend its mandate to the community through extension and outreach activities, Kibabii University today donated 75 pieces of refurbished mattresses to Bungoma Main Prison. Present to receive the donation from the Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo was the Officer in Charge, Mr. Aggrey Akoyo (ACP).

Mr. Akoyo expressed gratitude to the University for the support and mutual relations between the two institutions. According to him, with a capacity of 800 inmates, Bungoma Prisons facility has a deficiency of many essential items. He called upon more donors to complement the Government’s investment to the correctional facility in meeting these demands.

“These mattresses will go a long way in helping this vulnerable group of inmates and members of staff,” he said.

Currently, the two institutions are in partnership towards the provision of psychological counselling, spiritual nourishment and health talks to the inmates and members of staff. in addition to other mutual engagements, the Facility admits Kibabii University students to undertake attachment and internship programmes within its departments.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor lauded the Prisons Department and society for the positive steps taken in rethinking prison approaches from condemnation towards correctional service.
