KIBU Soars High In Sporting Competitions
Kibabii University continues to cement its presence in various sporting competitions in local and international platforms. In the weekend of 5th – 6th February 2022, the University presented various sports teams to compete in different tourneys.
Rugby Nationwide League
In the ongoing Kenya Rugby Union Nationwide League, Kibabii University Rugby team beat Webuye Rugby Club in a match played at Kibabii University’s Sports Complex on Saturday 5th February, 2022. The “Blues” who are playing in their inaugural season outweighed the longstanding visitors, domineering the first half that ended 32-03. The match ended 44-09 in favour of the students side, securing maximum points with a critical bonus and a hope of qualifying for the playoffs.
So far, Kibabii has played 6 matches, winning 4 in a closely contested zone of the National League. In the coming weekend, the Blues shall play host to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology with 5 matches lined up to the end of the season.
In the Western Kenya University Sports held at Maseno University, Kibabii University emerged top in the ranking in both men and women categories. The indoor competitions held between 5th – 6th February 2022 attracted 8 universities across the Western Conference, competing in Taekwondo, Karate, Badminton, Table Tennis, Darts and Lawn Tennis.
In Taekwondo women category, Kibabii University won five (5) gold and five (5) silver medals while men picked two (2) gold medals, three (3) silver and three (3) bronze medals. Karate won three (3) medals; one (1) silver and one (1) bronze in the ladies category, men won one (1) bronze. The University also won a silver in badminton (men category).
