Kibabii University Red Cross Club has been presented with the top honours Kenya Red Cross University Chapters Award. The University won the Award in 2020 in the North Region covering Bungoma, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Turkana and Trans Nzoia counties. The award recognizes any public or private university which has a strong Kenya Red Cross Society Club/Chapter with the highest number of active Red Cross members and volunteers. The KIBU Chapter was recognized the best out of numerous projects and engagements with the community. Some of the engagements include; Linda Wazee programme, Anti-Jigger Campaigns, Blood Donations, Tree Planting, Street Children meals Programme, First Aid and Disaster Management Training among others. The Award was presented to the University by Bungoma County Kenya Red Cross Coordinator, Ms. Sheila Libese.
While receiving the Award on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation) Prof. Dr.-Ing. Benedict M. Mutua was elated by the efforts put forward by the University community in impacting on the lives and livelihoods of the vulnerable in society. He singled out projects conducted in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross, whose results have been tremendous. Most notable, was the contribution of the Kenya Red Cross Club in the University’s greening initiative. The Club participated immensely in the landscaping and planting over 10,000 indigenous trees that currently present a breathtaking scenery in the University.
