Dr. Jacinta Mutwiwa, a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and the Coordinator of Linkages and International Affairs, was adjudged the Best Overall Presenter at the 3rd Busitema University Science, Technology and Innovation Symposium (BUSTIC 2025). The symposium was held from 14th to 16th October 2025 at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Mbale City, Uganda. The award, presented by the Vice Chancellor of Busitema University, Prof. Paul Waako, recognized Dr. Mutwiwa’s work as the most outstanding across all presentations and sub-themes at the conference, which was attended by delegates from twelve institutions.
Dr. Mutwiwa’s presentation, titled “A Mathematical Model for the Dynamics of Stress and Depression among Kenyan University Students,” was entered under the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) sub-theme. Her ability to compellingly present complex research that bridges mathematical modeling and critical mental health challenges captivated the symposium, earning her the top honour.
