Kibabii University is happy to receive Sis. Dr. Jackline Okello Alari as the incoming Registrar Academic Affairs who takes over from the outgoing Registrar, Prof. Ernest Mohochi. Sis. Dr. Alari joins Kibabii University from Karatina University where she was the Deputy Registrar of Academic Affairs. She brings on board a wealth of experience both in academia and administration.

A second born in a family of six, Sis. Dr. Alari was born in 1981 at Machakus in Busia County of Western Kenya. She grew up in Nambale where she attended Nambale AC Primary School and Our Lady of Mercy Girls Busia, completing her secondary education in 1999. It is at this point that she aspired to be a Sister and joined the Little Sisters of St. Joseph Convent in 2001 where she professed and took her first vows in 2005.

In the year 2007 Dr. Alari joined the Catholic University of Eastern Africa for her undergraduate studies where she pursued a B.Ed. Science (Maths & Biology) and immediately enrolled for her Masters at the same institution in Educational Administration and Planning. Her Masters research was titled ‘Perception of Form One Placement in Mumias’. After her Masters, she worked as a head teacher in

Namanga at a school belonging to the Little Sisters of St. Joseph. She later joined Marist International University where she was appointed as the Personal Assistant (PA) to the Principal in 2013 and was also accorded the opportunity to lecture in her area of specialization. In 2014, she was promoted from the office of the PA and moved to the Office of the Registrar Academic Affairs as its new Registrar. She developed and co-developed around twenty one (21) policies for the University and participated in streamlining the registry. In 2015, Dr. Alari enrolled for her PhD in Educational Planning and Leadership, her research being on Human Resource Management and Leadership in Institutes of Consecrated Life at Marist University and Tangaza University.

As an educationist with great passion in educational administration and leadership, Sis. Dr. Alari has had an illustrious working career. She has served as the Deputy Registrar at Karatina University, Registrar Academic Affairs at Marist International University College, Personal Assistant (PA) to the Principal of Marist International University College and a Head Teacher. She has taught courses such as human development, curriculum development, philosophy of education, educational statistics, research methods and group dynamics & psychology at the workplace at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, having also served as a supervisor and external examiner for postgraduate students in a number of institutions.

Among the many feathers on her hat, Sis. Dr. Alari is a Quality Assurance expert with advanced training from the East Africa Quality Assurance Network, the Commission for University Education and the Kenya Universities’ Quality Assurance Network where she serves as the Secretary General. She is also a member of the Association of Academic Registrars in Kenya where she serves as the Treasurer. She has developed skills in e-learning and is an expert in matters Open and Distance Learning.

Sis. Dr. Alari expressed her joy at the reception she was accorded when she reported to Kibabii University which made her settling in smooth. She heaped praises at the superb staff in the Office of the Registrar Academic Affairs who have been very supportive. “The Office of the Registrar Academic Affairs is the heart of any academic institution, everything starts and ends at this office. The office handles registration and admission of students, monitors curriculum implementation, evaluates and notes whether students have been taught, evaluates learners and correctly credits them in accordance with the approved curriculums, then ensures the right student has graduated and is certified”, Said Sis. Alari. With over 10 years’ experience serving in the Office of the Academic Registrar, she promises to bring a package of quality and efficiency. Students should expect a lot of firmness as she is a professional who follows policies to the latter, a mother, one who places a lot of emphasis on academics, and who constantly reminds them of what is expected from them. “University operations are strictly guided by policies. As such, students should expect lots of references, interpretation and implementation of the same”, she added.

On curbing academic corruption, a pandemic that has received a lot of attention from the general public recently, the Registrar’s observation was that as long as we do not follow the laid down policies and procedures, we will always find ourselves in this rot, from wrongful admissions, corruption in the learning process, in setting, marking and grading of students, and in awarding of certificates. She believes that collaborative efforts are required by all key stakeholders to ensure the right process are followed, which includes the teaching staff strictly abiding by their code of ethics. On teaching, an emphasis should be placed on having the right personnel with relevant qualifications in their areas of specialization to ensure that the correct staff with the prerequisite qualifications are allowed to offer teaching services to our clients.

Sis. Dr. Alari promises to give the best to Kibabii University and always be present to offer quality services.
