Kibabii University Testing & Wellness Day

The Department of Epidemics and Disaster Management in conjunction with Kibabii University Health Services and Bungoma County Health officials carried out a successful two days exercise on a variety of medical related services to both the University staff and students population. The two days even that took place on 24th and 25th October 2023 saw the following services being offered,

  • HIV Testing and Counselling
  • Sexually Transmitted Illnesses Screening
  • Gender Based Violence Screening and Counselling Services
  • Mental Health Counselling

The facilitators praised the university population for turning out in overwhelming numbers that saw 586 staff and students benefiting from this exercise. The officials stressed on the importance of the university interacting with these services as they are an important pillar in the fight against the spread of HIV and AIDS, gender based violence and other mental health issues that have greatly affected the community.

They noted that the growth of the economy and the country at large relied on a population that has to be mentally and psychologically sound and of good health and there wasn’t a better place where this constituency is found that our institutions of higher learning.

The positive turnout was a clear indicator that the larger university population was conscious of their health and that Kibabii University is leading as a positive example of a community that wants to actively fight pandemics that are a hindrance to national growth and development.
