Kibabii University has reinforced its commitment to digital transformation through a two-day Digital Content Development Retreat organized by the Directorate of Open, Distance and eLearning (ODeL) at Farm View Hotel, Busia, from 13th to 14th June 2026.
The retreat brought together Deans, Directors, and ODeL Board Members to enhance their capacity in developing quality digital learning content aligned with the Commission for University Education (CUE) standards and the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework.
Officially opening the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to expanding quality Open, Distance and eLearning programmes. He encouraged participants to embrace innovative digital pedagogies and emerging technologies to improve access, flexibility, and quality in higher education delivery. The event was also attended by the Deputy Vice Chancellors and other members of the University Management.
The programme was coordinated by the Director of ODeL, Dr. Patrick Oduor Owoche, and facilitated by Ms. Barbara Khavungwi Makhaya of Maseno University, an expert in digital pedagogy and Open, Distance and eLearning. Participants gained practical skills in instructional design, learner-centred online teaching, digital assessment, multimedia integration, and quality assurance in online learning.
A key highlight of the retreat was the hands-on development of digital course content, where participants transformed Senate-approved curricula into interactive online courses using the University’s Digital Content Development Template and AI-supported instructional design tools. The developed content is expected to undergo validation before deployment on the University’s Moodle Learning Management System.
The retreat forms part of Kibabii University’s broader strategy to strengthen technology-enhanced learning, expand access to higher education, and position the institution as a leader in digital education and innovation.
