Kibabii University, on 17th October, 2024, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health (TICAH), marking a significant step forward in efforts to combat sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) on campus. This collaboration underscores Kibabii University’s commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment, where students, staff, and faculty can thrive free from fear and discrimination.
The acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Donald Siamba, expressed his appreciation for this collaboration, noting that “…the partnership with TICAH aligns with our mission to cultivate an academic environment grounded in respect, dignity, and equality.”
TICAH was represented by Mr. Mordecai Odera, Head of Programs; Ms. Sheilah Warindi, Senior Program Manager for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR); and Ms. Corazon Ayoma, Program Manager for Adolescent and Youth SRHR. Also present during the signing were; Prof. Samuel Mbuguah, acting DVC Planning, Partnerships, Research, and Innovation, Dr. Rispah Wepukhulu, Director IGDS, Mr. Onex Opati, Coordinator, IGDS, and Jayne Nelima representing the Kibabii Legal Office. Through this partnership, TICAH and Kibabii University aim to implement programs focused on SGBV prevention, support for survivors, and the creation of awareness campaigns. The initiatives will address key issues affecting the university community, such as promoting gender equity, strengthening reporting mechanisms, and providing resources and counseling services to those affected by SGBV.
The signing of the MoU highlights Kibabii University’s dedication to upholding values that promote student and staff well-being, empowerment, and accountability. Together, TICAH and Kibabii University are committed to creating a safer and more supportive campus community.
