The LREB Regional Climate Change & Agri Expo 2025 was held at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) from 15th to 17th October, 2025. The event, themed “Investing in Climate Solutions: Finance, Innovation and Action,” brought together key stakeholders from across the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) to explore pathways toward a climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural future.

Jointly organized by the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB), Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), and the Kakamega County Government, the three-day expo served as a platform for dialogue, exhibition, and collaboration among leaders, innovators, researchers, investors, and policymakers. Its primary purpose was to showcase and discuss climate-smart agricultural solutions, foster strategic partnerships, and attract investments that drive sustainable development within the region.

The event featured exhibitions from agribusiness enterprises, climate technology developers, and academic institutions, all focused on innovative responses to the challenges posed by climate change in agriculture. Among the distinguished guests was His Excellency Governor Fernandes Barasa of Kakamega County, who officially graced the occasion, underscoring the government’s commitment to advancing climate action and agricultural transformation through innovation and research.

Kibabii University was represented at the expo by a team of scholars from the Department of Computer Science, led by Dr. Daniel Muyobo and Dr. Samuel Barasa. The team exhibited a Technological Forensic Project funded under the National Research Fund (NRF), highlighting the University’s ongoing commitment to leveraging technology in addressing contemporary national and global challenges.

The event also drew participation from key regional leaders, including Governor Fernandes Barasa of Kakamega County, Governor Kenneth Lusaka of Bungoma County, and Governor Wilberforce Otichilo of Vihiga County, all of whom emphasized the need for collaborative and data-driven approaches to achieve climate resilience in agriculture, reaffirming the critical role of universities and research institutions in advancing climate innovation, sustainable development, and regional economic growth.
