Kibabii University Receives KSh 130,000 Award from Equity Bank Following Outstanding Performance at Kenya Drama and Film Festivals 2026

Kibabii University has received a trophy and a cheque worth KES 130,000 from Equity Bank in recognition of its exceptional performance at the Kenya Drama and Film Festivals (KDFF) 2026, held in Nyeri from 5th to 17th April 2026. The University’s Drama Team emerged as the national winner in the Documentary Production category under the University section. In addition, the team achieved remarkable success in Modern Dance, where it was crowned the overall national winner, earning an invitation to perform at State House in recognition of its outstanding artistic excellence.

In the Film Category, Kibabii University emerged with the best documentary making it to be nominated as the Best Documentary of the Year by Equity Bank while in the Modern Creative Dance Category, the University scooped the following awards;

  1. Winning Dance
  2. Best Choreography
  3. Best Choreographer
  4. Most Creative
  5. Best Dance Routine
  6. Best Composed Music

The award from Equity Bank was presented to Kibabii University for emerging the best institution in categories sponsored by the bank during the festival. The trophy and cheque were formally handed over to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, on Tuesday, 2nd June 2026, by an Equity Bank delegation led by the Bungoma Branch Manager, Mr. Geoffrey Wanyonyi.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor expressed his gratitude to Equity Bank for its continued support of youth talent development and the creative arts. He commended the bank for recognizing and rewarding excellence among young people and for its partnership with institutions of higher learning. He further congratulated the Drama Team, its trainers, and the entire University community for bringing honor to Kibabii University through their exemplary performance at the national festival. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with Equity Bank and other stakeholders in promoting innovation, creativity, and talent development among students.

Present during the award was the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation) Prof. Julius Maiyo, In-Charge Students Affairs Dr. Leunita Makila and the Drama Patron Dr. Kennedy Njasi.
