Kibabii University has once again demonstrated its growing academic stature by maintaining 7th position nationally in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025/2026. This achievement follows its strong performance in the Times Higher Education Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings 2024/2025, where the University also ranked 7th in Kenya and 46th in the region with an impressive score of 57.4 percent. The 2025/2026 global ranking builds upon this solid foundation, marking the University’s continued rise in the international academic arena and its official entry into the global league of distinguished universities.
The announcement comes at a time of heightened global competition among universities, with THE rankings serving as one of the most credible benchmarks for measuring academic excellence and institutional impact. Kibabii University’s inclusion is therefore a reflection of years of strategic investment in infrastructure, research capacity, partnerships, and quality assurance. According to Times Higher Education, universities are evaluated across five key performance indicators: teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income. Kibabii University has shown steady progress across all these areas, particularly in research visibility, innovation, and international collaboration.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo lauded the achievement as a defining moment in the University’s pursuit of global excellence.
“This recognition is a testament to the collective effort of our staff, students, and partners who have worked tirelessly to elevate Kibabii University’s profile. It affirms our position as a leading institution not only in Kenya but also in the global academic space,” he said.
The achievement also reflects the University’s unwavering commitment to its Strategic Plan (2023–2027), which prioritizes academic excellence, research development, internationalization, and community engagement. Notable milestones such as the establishment of state-of-the-art learning facilities, the operationalization of the Innovation and Incubation Hub, and active participation in global programs like Erasmus+ have been key drivers of this success.
