Kibabii University Partners with Horizon Deutsch Training Institute to Boost Global Employment Opportunities

Kibabii University on Monday, 29th June 2026 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Horizon Deutsch Training Institute in a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening German language training and expanding international career opportunities for students, particularly in Germany. The collaboration, coordinated through the University’s Centre for Language and Cultural Studies (CLACS), aligns with the Kenya–Germany Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement, which promotes ethical and legal labour migration pathways for qualified Kenyan professionals.

The Kenya–Germany agreement seeks to address Germany’s growing demand for skilled labour while creating structured opportunities for Kenyans to access employment, apprenticeships, and vocational training. The German labour market has identified opportunities for qualified professionals in fields such as healthcare, engineering, hospitality, information technology, renewable energy, and technical and vocational sectors. The partnership provides eligible Kenyans who meet immigration and language requirements with opportunities to compete for available positions.

During the signing ceremony, representatives from Horizon Deutsch Training Institute, led by Ms. Betty Masinde and Ms. Alice Muhonja, highlighted that the initiative was developed in response to the Kenya–Germany labour mobility framework. They emphasized the need to prepare graduates with both professional qualifications and language skills to enable a smooth transition into international workplaces.

With its headquarters located in Kitale, the institute is strategically positioned to serve learners in Western Kenya. The partnership also represents an expansion of German language training beyond TVET institutions into the university sector. The programme currently offers internationally recognized German proficiency levels A1, A2, B1, and B2, with plans to introduce the advanced C1 level at Kibabii University. The partners expressed confidence that the first C1 cohort will be enrolled before the end of the year.

Representing the University management, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) Professor Joshua Ogendo, noted that changing global labour dynamics require universities to continuously align their programmes with emerging opportunities. He emphasized Kibabii University’s commitment to enhancing graduate employability through strategic partnerships that promote global competitiveness and international mobility. He welcomed the collaboration, describing it as a timely initiative that supports the University’s internationalization agenda. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure effective implementation and long-term sustainability of the programme.

The ceremony concluded with the formal exchange of the MoU between the two institutions, which was graced by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo. Going forward, a joint implementation committee comprising representatives from Kibabii University and Horizon Deutsch Training Institute will oversee programme rollout, coordinate training activities, and monitor progress.
