Kibabii University conducted a two-day free Medical Camp that benefited hundreds of residents in Mukuyuni, Bungoma County. The outreach programme, held at Mukuyuni Health Centre on 5th and 6th March 2026, was organized by the University’s Community Outreach Office as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation), Prof. Julius Maiyo, alongside other members of the University community.
The initiative aimed to bring essential and affordable healthcare services closer to the community, particularly underserved populations. The medical camp was led by the University’s Health Department, School of Nursing, and Department of Psychology in collaboration with government and private sector partners. In addition to providing treatment, the outreach also focused on raising awareness about critical public health issues such as HIV/AIDS prevention, gender-based violence, mental health, family planning, and substance abuse.
Community members accessed a wide range of healthcare services free of charge, including anti-jigger treatment, malaria management, HIV/AIDS counselling and testing, deworming, family planning services, mental health awareness, cancer screening, laboratory testing, and general medical consultations.
The success of the medical camp was made possible through the support of several partners, including the County Government of Bungoma through the Ministry of Health, the Kenya Red Cross Society – Bungoma Chapter, LifeCare Hospital, Bungoma Children’s Hospital, Eldoret Hospital, Sai Pharmaceutical Company, and the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA).
Over the two days, a total of 742 community members received medical attention. General medical care accounted for the largest share with 558 beneficiaries, followed by 111 laboratory services and 40 family planning services. Additional services included 16 anti-jigger treatments, 14 HIV counselling and testing services, and 3 cancer screenings.
The outreach had a significant impact on the community and demonstrated the University’s continued commitment to improving community wellbeing through partnerships with county health authorities and other stakeholders. Kibabii University extends its appreciation to all partners and health professionals who contributed their time, expertise, and resources to the success of the initiative.
