Kibabii University Debate Club Excels at Kenya University Debate Championship

On 11th April 2026, the Kibabii University Debate Club represented the University at the Kenya University Debate Championship (KUDC), hosted at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. The regional event brought together four universities from Western Kenya: Kaimosi University, Maseno University, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, and Kibabii University.

The championship featured two key categories: Public Speaking and Debating tournaments. Participants engaged in intellectually stimulating sessions that addressed contemporary issues such as environmental sustainability, climate change, leadership accountability, and economic development. These topics challenged students to think critically, articulate arguments persuasively, and propose viable solutions to real-world challenges. Kibabii University delivered an outstanding performance, emerging as the best in Public Speaking and also earning recognition as the best in mastering current issues debate topics. With these accolades, Kibabii University qualified for the national Championship competitions scheduled for early September 2026.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the championship provided a valuable platform for networking and knowledge exchange. Students interacted with peers from other universities, fostering meaningful discussions and sharing diverse perspectives. Such engagements are instrumental in enhancing communication skills, broadening worldviews, and strengthening collaborative problem-solving abilities.

While receiving the awards won by the team, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) Prof. Joshua Ogendo commended the participants for their discipline, teamwork, and dedication, noting that such platforms are vital in nurturing future leaders and critical thinkers.
