Kibabii University has concluded the 9th Students Organization of Kibabii University (SOKU) elections with the official swearing-in of newly elected leaders.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday, 1st April 2026, saw the installation of seven (7) members of the Student Council alongside twenty (20) members of the Student Congress, in accordance with the Universities Act, 2012 (amended 2016).
Presiding over the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaa Ipara Odeo, commended the Kibabii University Electoral Commission for conducting a credible, transparent, and orderly election. He noted that the integrity of the process reflects the University’s commitment to democratic values and institutional governance. In his address, he urged the newly elected leaders to rise above political divisions and focus on service delivery.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized that leadership is a responsibility entrusted by the electorate and must be exercised with integrity, inclusivity, and accountability. He challenged the student leaders to embrace dialogue, foster cohesion among the diverse student population, and work collaboratively with the University administration to enhance student welfare and academic excellence. He further reminded them that their tenure would be measured not by promises made during campaigns, but by tangible impact and responsiveness to the needs of the student body.
“You have been given the mandate to serve. This is the time to translate your ideas into meaningful action and to build a united and progressive student community,” he stated.
In his inaugural address, the newly elected SOKU President, Mr. Aupry Shango, expressed gratitude to the students for the confidence bestowed upon him and his team. He acknowledged the competitive nature of the elections and called for reconciliation and unity among all students, regardless of political affiliation.
“This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every student who believes in a better Kibabii University. We will work together, listen to one another, and build a student leadership that is accessible, responsive, and results-driven,” he affirmed.
The electoral process began on Friday, 27th March 2026, with the election of Student Congress representatives, where twenty candidates were declared winners. Although the exercise experienced minor disruptions, calm was swiftly restored, allowing the process to proceed smoothly and maintain its credibility. The newly elected Congress members later convened on Monday, 30th March 2026, to elect the Student Council, thereby completing the formation of the new student leadership.
The elections were conducted under strict oversight led by the Chairperson of the Kibabii University Electoral Commission, Prof. Robert Kati, who served as the Returning Officer, supported by the Dean of Students, Dr. Leunita Makila, who acted as Deputy Returning Officer. The Commission worked in close collaboration with the Students Electoral Commission, chaired by Evans Makokha, to deliver a well-coordinated and credible election.
