Kibabii University Commissions RFID Security System at the Library and Documentation Center

Kibabii University has taken a major step forward in enhancing information security and service delivery with the official launch and commissioning of a new RFID Security System at the University Library and Documentation Center. The state-of-the-art system, supplied and installed by System One, was officially unveiled in a ceremony graced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics and Student Affairs) Prof. Joshua Ogendo, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation) Prof. Julius Maiyo, and the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Development) Dr. Anselemo Ikoha.

The RFID Security System is set to revolutionize the management of library resources by improving the efficiency of access control, strengthening the protection of books and other materials, and streamlining circulation processes. Beyond enhancing security, the system has made stock taking and inventory checks remarkably easy. With the use of a hand-held device, staff can simply run the scanner through the shelves to detect all available books, thus eliminating the time-consuming manual process of counterchecking each book one by one.

In addition, the system provides valuable statistics on library usage by automatically counting the number of users who walk into the library. This data will help the library in planning, decision-making, and improving services based on user trends and needs.

Speaking during the launch, the Vice Chancellor noted that the new system not only underscores the University’s commitment to technological advancement but also enhances accountability, transparency, and efficiency in library operations. He commended the Committee responsible for overseeing the smooth implementation of the project, as well as the dedicated library staff, for their role in making the launch a success.
