Kibabii University Cohosts the 7th Annual Victimology and Victim Assistance Conferenc

The 7th Annual Victimology and Victim Assistance Conference took place at the University of Nairobi from October 30th to 31st, 2024, marking another milestone in international collaboration on victim support and crime prevention. Co-hosted by the University of Nairobi, Kibabii University, and Ahmadu Bello University, the event brought together experts and stakeholders from Kenya, Nigeria, Norway, to name a few. The theme for this year’s conference was, “Contemporary Issues in Victimology, Victim Assistance, and Crime Prevention.” Scholars, policymakers, and practitioners from Norway, Nigeria, and Kenya engaged in vibrant discussions and knowledge sharing, all aimed at strengthening global and regional responses to victimization.

Participants capped off the conference with a visit to Langata Prison, where they donated essential items, extending support and solidarity to incarcerated individuals and underscoring the importance of rehabilitation. The visit reflected the conference’s commitment to not only discuss victim support but also to take meaningful action.

Kibabii University was represented by Dr. Rispah Wepukhulu, Director of the Institute of Gender and Development Studies, and Mr. Onex Opati, Coordinator of the Institute. Their presence highlighted Kibabii University’s dedication to gender-sensitive research in victimology and its role in fostering collaborative efforts in victim assistance.
