Biography

Joined Kibabii University on 26th January, 2024 as a Council member. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in Islamic Education from University of Nairobi, M.Ed. from Khartoum International Institute for Arabic Language, M.A. in Rural Sociology and Community Development from University of Nairobi, Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from Islamic University in Uganda, and BA (Hons) Islamic Studies and Arabic Language from Islamic University in Uganda.

With over 25 years of experience in the Education Sector, Dr. Adan is a seasoned Curriculum Specialist currently working with Adam Smith International. He had the privilege of serving as a member of

the National Taskforce on the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya. His diverse background includes roles such as Technical Advisor for the Kenya Essential Education Programme (KEEP), Adam Smith International-Africa, Curriculum Development Advisor at Mercycorps in Somalia, and Lecturer and Coordinator at Kenyatta University’s Institute of Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL).

Throughout his career, he has held positions as a secondary school teacher, teacher trainer at various Teacher Training Institutes, and curriculum specialist at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). Since 2003, he had the opportunity to undertake numerous consultancies in Somalia and Kenya for esteemed organizations like Save the Children UK and Save the Children Denmark, CARE, UNICEF, UNESCO, DFID, USAID, and other donors. These consultancies have focused on critical areas such as teacher training, curriculum development, non-formal/alternative basic education, as well as monitoring and evaluation of development programs.

In 2006, he served as a Consultant on Save the Children U.K.’s Strengthening Capacity of Teacher Trainees (SCOTT) Project, where he helped develop the Pre-service Teacher Education Curriculum for Somaliland. Additionally, he had the honor of being the Lead Consultant for Save the Children Denmark’s project, where they developed a TIVET curriculum comprising six skill areas for Somalia. As part of this initiative, he played a pivotal role in developing a comprehensive guideline for the development of TIVET curriculum and its implementation in Somaliland and PuntLand State of Somalia.
