The Kibabii University Students Electoral Commission (KEC) and Students Elections Commission (SEC) today held a briefing of candidates and official launching of the campaigns for the KIBU 2024/2025 Students Elections at the Auditorium C. The University Chaplain Fr. Dr. Leonard Juma opened the session with an encouraging sermon asking candidates to ensure that their campaigns are done peacefully and they ensure that their success pleases God.
The Students Elections Commission (SEC) Chairman Mr. John Wabuka thanked the candidates for making time to attend the important exercise meant to kick start the campaigns for the elections slated for 28th March 2024. He assured the candidates that his team was prepared and ready for the elections. The Dean of Students, Dr. Benson Nasongo reminded the candidates that the SOKU elections is an important activity in the University Calendar which is strictly guided by the SOKU Constitution, University Statutes, Students Handbook among other important legal documents. He assured the candidates and their supporters that his office is ready for a smooth and peaceful exercise.
The KEC Chairman, Dr. Ben Nyongesa, addressing the 54 successful candidates and their agents, congratulated them on making it to this point. He impressed on the attendants to remember that elections is just a seasonal event which should not distract them from the core mandate that brought them to this institution; academics.
During the exercise, the Chair KEC took the candidates through rules and regulations governing the conduct of elections in Kibabii University from the official start of the campaign period to the last day of the campaigns. He reiterated that the University is keen on ensuring a peaceful and transparent electioneering period which will create unity and a conducive academic environment.
