As an institution dedicated to academic excellence and research, Kibabii University is set to host several interns and students on academic exchange from Switzerland and Germany. The learners will be on a running under a programme courtesy of International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE). This exceptional opportunity will allow students specializing in Public Health to undertake an enriching internship program at Kibabii University. The experience will facilitate knowledge exchange, skill development, and cultural understanding, benefiting both the students and the University community.
The first IAESTE intern from Switzerland arrived in the University on Tuesday 20th June, 2013. She was warmly welcomed by the Coordinator of Linkages and International Affairs Dr. Patrick Owoche. The student is currently receiving comprehensive orientation to the campus, its facilities, and the local community and will be attached to the School of Nursing, where she will be engaged in various aspects of Public Health including; disease prevention, health promotion, and community outreach programs. Through teamwork and joint projects, the student will actively contribute her knowledge and insights while learning from the experiences and expertise of their Kenyan peers. This collaboration will foster a rich exchange of ideas, cultural understanding, and the development of innovative solutions to public health challenges. As part of the internship, the student will have the opportunity to engage in fieldwork and community outreach initiatives while partnering with Bungoma County Referral Hospital and St. Anthony Health Center, local healthcare organizations and community leaders. The intern will also participate actively in public health campaigns, health screenings, and educational programs.
The arrival set the stage for a productive and inclusive internship experience, fostering intercultural connections and mutual learning with more interns lined up for July and September.
