Kibabii University has made significant progress in preparations for the forthcoming 9th Students Organization of Kibabii University (SOKU) elections scheduled for 27th March 2026, through a series of activities spearheaded by the Kibabii University Electoral Commission (KEC). Led by the Chairperson, Prof. Robert Kati, the Commission has been working closely with the Office of the Dean of Students to ensure that the electoral process remains transparent, orderly, and inclusive.
On Tuesday, 10th March 2026, Prof. Kati officially briefed the successful Student Electoral Commission (SEC) personnel comprising clerks, commissioners, and security staff, following their shortlisting and interviews. These officials now form the operational arm of the Electoral Commission and will play a critical role in managing the different stages of the election. The briefing provided guidance on their responsibilities, expectations, and the ethical standards required to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.
At the same time, the University facilitated the submission of nomination papers by students seeking to contest various leadership positions in the upcoming elections. The exercise attracted considerable interest, reflecting the vibrant democratic spirit within the student community. After receiving the nomination papers, the Electoral Commission conducted a comprehensive vetting process and subsequently cleared the aspirants who will officially vie for positions in the 9th SOKU administration.
The preparations continued on Friday, 13th March 2026, when the Electoral Commission, in collaboration with the University’s Security Department, held a briefing for all cleared candidates. The session brought together key figures, including Prof. Robert Kati, Chair of the Electoral Commission; Mr. Lusweti, representing the Dean of Students, Dr. Leunita Makila; Mr. Benard Opiyo, Head of Investigations at Kibabii University, standing in for Mr. Zablon Mamai, the Head of Security; Mr. Aggrey Shamwama, Assistant Security Officer; Mr. Joseph Silasi, Head of Security Operations; and Mr. Benjamin Ekamai, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Mayanja Police Post. Their participation underscored the University’s commitment to ensuring a secure, credible, and well-coordinated electoral process.
A total of 21 positions in the Student Congress and 7 positions in the Student Council are up for contest, marking a significant moment for the renewal of student leadership at the University. As the election date approaches, the institution continues to emphasize peaceful campaigns, integrity, and responsible participation among all stakeholders.
