Vice Chancellor Launches the ILO/SIYB Workshop for Staff in Kisumu

Kibabii University continues to make strides in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship with the launch of the International Labour Organization’s Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) workshop in Kisumu. The ten-day event that commenced on 10th December 2024 event was attended by 15 staff members and was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo.

The Vice Chancellor took the opportunity to congratulate the Project Lead, Prof. Joshua Abuya, and his team for their exceptional work in developing the proposal that secured funding from the KCB Foundation, supported by the Mastercard Foundation. The funding is earmarked for MSMEs Business Development in Western Kenya, an initiative that positions Kibabii University as a key player in strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region.

The Vice Chancellor also lauded the establishment of the University Research Crack Team in 2021, a strategic initiative that has since attracted several prestigious research grants. He acknowledged the team’s dedication and excellence, which continue to enhance Kibabii University’s position as a leader in research and innovation.

The SIYB program, developed by the International Labour Organization, provides essential skills across the entrepreneurial journey; from generating innovative ideas and starting businesses to improving operations and expanding ventures. Prof. Ipara noted that integrating these principles with the MSME Development project would empower staff and communities to unlock economic potential, create employment opportunities, and foster sustainable growth.
