DESCRIPTION OF THE TRAINING
Peer Education is a behavior change communication process that involves carrying out mostly informal or organized educational activities with individuals or small groups of peers over a period of time, in a variety of settings through many different activities.
Peer educators are non-professional teachers talking to, working with, and motivating their peers. Through the training we create a pool of peers with skills adequate for sustaining conversations directed towards opening up on sexual reproductive health topics.
OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of the training included enabling the trainees to have among other things:
- To Have a high risk perception
- To Know their HIV Status
- To Protect themselves from HIV and other STIs
- To Have improved maternal and child health
- To encourage mentorship usually under the (Ubuntu spirit)
- Learn, enhance and adopt leadership values and making informed choices.
- To enhance peer to peers interactions / to encourage one on one and small groups interactions among the SEALs/ peers
