Estates department is one of the departments under the division of Administration, Planning and Finance in the University. The department is headed by Eng. Julius Maloba and assisted by Mrs. Irine Wepukhulu, in charge Buildings and Water sections and Mr. Dennis Mugendi, in charge Electrical and Grounds sections.
The core function of the department is to develop and maintain physical infrastructure in the University
The department has four sections namely:
- Building section
- Water section
- Electrical section
- Grounds section
Estates Department 2019/2020 Financial Year Performance Contact Self Evaluation Exercise
In August 2019 the Ministry of Education and the Inspectorate of State Corporations negotiated and vetted Kibabii University’s performance contract for the financial year 2019/2020. The contract was cascaded and implemented within the required stipulated framework. The self-evaluation process was carried out from Tuesday 25th August, 2020 to Friday 28th August, 2020, Estates Department was evaluated. Kibabii University has successfully implemented the PC of FY 2019/2020 despite the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Estates Department QMS External Quality Audit based on ISO 9001:2015 Standard 2020
Kibabii University attained ISO 9001:2015 certification in November, 2019 after a successful certification audit conducted by SGS Kenya Ltd. Surveillance audits are conducted to ensure the University quality management system has continued to fulfil requirements of the certification audit. It is a periodic audit performed by an external auditor to ensure that an organization still meets ISO standard requirements SGS Kenya external auditor, Mr. Jared Ogutu conducted a surveillance audit virtually from 4th to 5th August, 2020. Estates Department was sampled.
The objectives of the audit were to determine conformity of the management system, or parts of it with audit criteria and its: ability to ensure applicable statutory, regulatory and contractual requirements are met; effectiveness to ensure the client can reasonably expect to achieve specified objectives, and ability to identify as applicable areas for potential improvement.
Official Handing Over of Women’s Hostel
Millicons Limited officially hands over the newly constructed Women’s Hostel to Kibabii University Management. The project management team led by the Project Manager QS Mary Gichuki led the University Management on an inspection tour of the completed Women’s Hostel project. The hostel block has 108 rooms to accommodate 412 students, 4 Entertainment rooms and Hostels officers’ offices.

Official Handing Over of Phase II Education Block
Millicons Limited officially hands over the newly constructed Phase II Education Block to Kibabii University Management. The project Manager walked them through different sections in the facility including offices, laboratories and demonstrating how some equipments in the facility are used.
Millicons Limited also handed over a 14 seater Van to Kibabii University as a token of appreciation. The event was crowned by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Ipara planting a tree in front of the newly constructed block.
Site Inspection for Proposed Phase II Educational Block
DVC (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation) Prof. Dr.-Ing. Benedict M. Mutua, PhD, Rer. Nat. lead the inspection team for constructed Phase II of Educational Block together with the Technical Project Management Team.The Technical Project Team Manager briefed the Inspection Committee on various sections allocated to different Departments and Schools/Faculties. This meeting comes just before official handing over of the facility to the University.
