Prof. Julius Kiprop Maiyo has been appointed as the substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research, and Innovation) at Kibabii University effective 1st February, 2025. He assumed Office today 5th February, 2025 in a handing over Ceremony witnessed by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, taking over from Prof. Samuel Mbuguah who has been discharging the duties in Acting capacity. Until this appointment, Prof. Maiyo served as the Dean, School of Education. He has also held key leadership positions at Kibabii University, including Acting DVC (Academics and Students Affairs). He has also been a Director of Performance Contracting and Quality Assurance and chaired various University Committees. Additionally, Prof. Maiyo previously served in senior roles at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). He brings on board a wealth of experience in academia, leadership and research which position him to drive the University’s strategic objectives.
A Professor of Economics of Education and Planning, Prof. Maiyo holds a PhD in Education from the University of Pune, India, an M.Phil. in Economics and Planning of Education from Moi University, an MBA in Human Resource from the Indian School of Business Administration, and a Bachelor’s degree in Education Arts from Moi University. He has made notable research contributions, with over 821 citations, an h-index of 11, and an i10-index of 14, focusing on Education Economics and Policy Planning. He is a Peer Reviewer for the Commission for University Education (CUE) and has held leadership roles in the East Africa Quality Assurance Network (EAQAN). His research contributions include; leading an IDRC-funded multi-country teacher mentorship project as well as securing DAAD grants for Leadership Training initiatives in Higher Education. His appointment is expected to enhance Kibabii University’s research and innovation landscape.
