Kibabii University Choir Shines at 97th Kenya Music Festival, Presents Trophies to Vice Chancellor

Kibabii University Choir presented their trophies and awards to the Vice Chancellor during the First-Year Orientation held on Friday 29th August, 2025. The team of artists emerged among the biggest winners during 97th edition of the Kenya Music Festival, held in Meru County from 3rd to 16th August 2025 under the theme “Enhancing the Creative Economy through Artistic Expression for Sustainable Development.” The University was among 22 institutions of higher learning that participated in this year’s festival, showcasing original pieces as direct entries. The team, comprising 50 students and two staff members led by Dr. Irene Simiyu, flew the Kibabii flag high on the national platform, earning a haul of four trophies, individual participant certificates, trainer awards, and institutional recognition certificates. The choir presented 21 items with marks ranging from 84% to 91%, securing several top positions.

The performances earned Kibabii University a coveted spot at both the Winner’s Gala in Meru School from 13th to 14th August and the prestigious State Concert at Sagana State Lodge on 16th August 2025. Remarkably, at both events, Kibabii University, alongside Kenyatta University represented all universities across the country, a true testament to the team’s growing reputation on the national stage. With their sights set even higher, the choir represented Kenya at the East African Music Festival scheduled for 18th to 21st August 2025, showcasing not only their artistry but also the University’s role in advancing cultural diplomacy through music.
