Kibabii University officially commenced its 7th Biennial Virtual Conference on 11th June, 2025. The two-day event held under the theme “Harnessing Innovation for Sustainable Growth,” aims to provide a platform for academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, students, and other key stakeholders to share insights and research findings on how innovation can be leveraged to promote sustainability, resilience, and inclusive growth.
According to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation) Prof. Julius Maiyo, the conference attracted 167 paper submissions from 34 institutions including universities, colleges, and various industry players, both locally and internationally.
In his address, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics and Student Affairs), Professor Joshua O. Ogendo, encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity presented by the conference. He noted that such forums not only provide visibility for individual researchers and institutions but also offer valuable opportunities to network and build collaborative bridges for the future.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, emphasized the critical role of innovation in solving contemporary societal challenges. He urged institutions and organizations to adopt innovations that are purposeful and capable of making tangible impacts in communities. He also stressed the importance of making data-driven decisions as a cornerstone for promoting sustainable growth.
In her keynote address, the Chief Guest, Prof. Miriam Kinyua, a distinguished scholar in Plant Breeding and Biotechnology from the University of Eldoret challenged researchers to pursue innovation with passion and resilience. She remarked that innovations can be disruptive; particularly to those who have not conceived them, and encouraged researchers to push forward even in the absence of funding. According to her, true innovation must be original and conceptualized by individuals willing to navigate through obstacles in order to make a difference.
