Kibabii University, through the Directorate of Research and Innovation, hosted an innovation forum on 4th<\/sup> June 2026 under the theme \u201cArtificial Intelligence for Reproductive Health in Africa.\u201d<\/em> The forum brought together University Management, researchers, innovators, healthcare stakeholders, and representatives from the Bungoma County Government to explore how emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies can be leveraged to address reproductive health challenges and improve healthcare outcomes across the continent.<\/p>

The event was chaired by the Chairperson, Department of Nursing Dr. Lucy Namusonge and featured a presentation by a team of young innovators led by Wilson Ndambuki. The team showcased REPAIR-AI, an innovative AI-powered reproductive health platform designed to support women in identifying potential reproductive health risks and accessing timely, evidence-based health information.<\/p>

During the presentation, the innovators demonstrated the platform’s multi-channel architecture comprising a web-based application, a mobile application, and a USSD service. The integrated approach is aimed at enhancing accessibility and inclusivity by reaching users with varying levels of digital connectivity. Through the platform, users can input relevant health information and receive AI-generated assessments and personalized recommendations to support informed decision-making and facilitate early health interventions.<\/p>

According to the development team, REPAIR-AI seeks to contribute to the reduction of maternal mortality and adverse reproductive health outcomes by improving access to reproductive health education, risk assessment tools, and personalized health guidance. The innovation is expected to bridge information gaps and empower women with timely and accurate reproductive health support.<\/p>

Speaking during the forum, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Planning, Research and Innovation), Prof. Julius Kiprop Maiyo, commended the innovators for their creativity and commitment to developing solutions that address real societal challenges. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting research excellence, innovation, and entrepreneurship among students and early-career researchers, noting that emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence have immense potential to transform healthcare delivery and improve the quality of life in communities.<\/p>

Similarly, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Prof. Joshua Ogendo, encouraged the innovators to embrace interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork in refining the platform. He emphasized that partnerships across different fields of expertise are critical in enhancing the scientific rigor, scalability, and long-term impact of innovative solutions.<\/p>

Representatives from the Bungoma County Government expressed support for the initiative and underscored the importance of strengthening collaborations between academia, healthcare providers, policymakers, and technology developers.
