Biography
Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo is the Vice Chancellor of Kibabii University in Kenya. He is a Professor of Kiswahili Language and Literature Education with extensive experience in teaching, research, consultancy, and community service. Prof. Odeo attained his Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree from the University of Nairobi in 1978, Master of Education degree from Kenyatta University in 1986, and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Language Education (Kiswahili) from Moi University in Kenya in 2003. He is a renowned scholar who has published widely. Specifically, he has written over fifty (50) publications in the form of books, book chapters, peer-reviewed journal papers, conference proceedings, and book reviews including his Autobiography: The Silent Footsteps. Prof. Odeo is an indefatigable and visionary leader with a knack for getting initiatives running. He has in 13 years, steered the exponential growth of Kibabii University from an enrolment of 333 to close to 10,000 students today. He has created an enabling environment for carrying out research and innovation in the University by molding a Research Crack Team that drives a vibrant research initiative. This has culminated in several interdisciplinary research projects that have contributed to quality teaching, learning and innovations leading to advancement in sustainable social economic development and transformation. Prof. Odeo has also steered the University towards establishing a state-of-the-art Information Communication Technology Hub that includes: Data Centre, Video Conference and Cisco, Digital Forensic and Mobile Computing Laboratories that has connected and aligned the University with the global trend toward digitalization in education, making its students competitive in a world increasingly shaped and driven by technology. He has equally mentored a vibrant team of staff who are competing globally on matters innovation including the automated Bagasse Drier that has caught the attention of both China and the United Kingdom. In a nutshell, Prof. Odeo has spent 47 years of his 70 years on this planet interacting with young people and through trans pollination of ideas has immensely contributed a vast body of knowledge and development of critical minds that are game changers impacting society in transformative ways.
