Kibabii University student has secured an outbound internship through the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) programme. Dickson Kiprotich Lomol, a student in the Department of Computer Science, was selected for an international internship at Hope Africa University in Burundi, where he is scheduled to report on Wednesday, 8th July 2026.
This achievement marks a historic first for Kibabii University. While the University has previously hosted three international students through the IAESTE programme, Lomol becomes the first Kibabii University student to be placed abroad under the same initiative. In another development, the Department of Computer Science is expected to send a second student, Wilson Ndambuki, for a similar IAESTE internship in Switzerland in August 2026.
Ahead of his departure, Lomol paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo. During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor congratulated the student on the remarkable achievement, describing it as a landmark moment for the University and a testament to the quality of education and talent nurtured at Kibabii University.
He urged Lomol to serve as a worthy ambassador of the University by upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and excellence throughout his stay in Burundi. He further commended the student’s commitment to academic and professional growth, noting that the achievement would inspire more students to pursue international exposure and strengthen the University’s global engagement.
The IAESTE programme is a globally recognized international exchange initiative that facilitates technical and professional internships for university students across the world, enabling them to gain practical experience, develop intercultural competencies, and build global professional networks.
Hope Africa University, where Lomol will undertake his internship, is a private university located in Bujumbura, Burundi. Established in 2000, the institution is accredited by Burundi’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and offers programmes in various disciplines, including Engineering and Technology, under which Computer Science is offered.
