On 22nd July 2026, Kibabii University officially received Ms. Amélie Fellrath, a Biomedical Sciences student from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, as she commenced her eight-week clinical internship under the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) programme. The internship reflects Kibabii University’s commitment to fostering international academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and experiential learning by providing students with valuable clinical and professional training opportunities. During a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, Ms. Fellrath was accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation), Prof. Julius Maiyo; the Director of Partnerships and Linkages, Prof. Paul Obino; the Coordinator of Linkages and International Affairs, Dr. Jacinta Mutwiwa; and Ms. Catherine Mutonyi from the School of Nursing.
The Vice Chancellor commended Ms. Fellrath for her professionalism and dedication during her internship at Bungoma County Referral Hospital, noting that the University had received positive feedback regarding her performance upon completion clinical rotations in Pediatrics, Maternity, Gynecology and Surgery, the Surgical Theatre, as well as community health outreach activities.
Ms. Fellrath thanked Kibabii University and Bungoma County Referral Hospital for the support and hospitality extended to her throughout her stay in Kenya. She described the internship as a valuable learning experience and pledged to serve as an ambassador for the University and Kenya upon her return to Switzerland.
The internship is part of the ongoing IAESTE partnership between Kibabii University and the University of Fribourg. Last year, the University hosted another Swiss student under the programme, while Kibabii University is expected to send Mr. Wilson Ndambuki to Switzerland next month for a one-year internship under the reciprocal exchange arrangement.
