University Council Tours Facilities in Mt. Elgon and Sirisia

On Friday, 24th January 2025, Members of the Kibabii University Council and Management conducted a tour of parcels of land located in Kopsiro, Mt. Elgon, and Sirisia. At Mt. Elgon, the delegation was warmly received by the Kopsiro Deputy County Commissioner. The 50-acre land in Kopsiro, donated to Kibabii University in 2020, is earmarked for development as a Learning Centre once the official documentation process is finalized. As part of the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability, several indigenous trees have already been planted on the site, contributing to the Government of Kenya’s Tree Cover agenda.

At Sirisia, the Council visited another parcel of land donated by a local resident. This site currently hosts an apiculture project, which aligns with Kibabii University’s Strategic Plan to transform it into a research hub. The apiculture project is a stepping stone toward establishing a multidisciplinary research facility that will benefit both the university and the local community.

The Council commended the local communities for their generosity and partnership in donating the parcels of land. They emphasized the importance of expediting the processes necessary to make the lands fully operational and beneficial to learners. The Council also noted that the planned activities on these facilities would not only enhance academic and research opportunities but also serve as catalysts for economic growth within the surrounding communities.
