State Department for Higher Education and Research Conducts Monitoring and Evaluation Exercise at Kibabii University

Kibabii University is currently hosting a delegation from the State Department for Higher Education and Research as part of a nationwide Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) initiative aimed at assessing the teaching and learning environment in public universities.

The exercise commenced on Tuesday, 29th April 2025, and is scheduled to conclude today, Wednesday, 30th April 2025. The team was officially received by Prof. Julius K. Maiyo, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation), on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. Prof. Maiyo reaffirmed the University’s commitment to transparency and accountability throughout the evaluation process. Also present to welcome the delegation was Prof. Joshua Ogendo, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs).

On his opening remarks, the head of the delegation, Mr. John Gogo, Assistant Director of Education, noted that the M&E exercise is a key government initiative designed to collect comprehensive data to inform policy decisions and enhance the quality, relevance, and sustainability of higher education in Kenya.

The assessment focuses on critical operational areas including student enrollment trends, faculty qualifications, physical infrastructure, ongoing and stalled development projects, academic programs, institutional sustainability, and the scope of university partnerships. To ensure a thorough evaluation, the team is engaging in focus group discussions with lecturers, administrative staff, and other key stakeholders. They are also conducting physical inspections of core University facilities such as lecture halls, libraries, laboratories, hostels, and administrative offices.
