On 23rd January 2025, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, accompanied by Mr. Juma Kilwake, the Coordinator of ICT, attended the Hikvision Safe Campus and Smart Education Open Day at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi. The event brought together representatives from thirty (30) public universities, all committed to integrating cutting-edge technology into education and campus security.
The event was graced by Ms. Aurelia Rono, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Parliamentary Affairs, representing Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Higher Education and Research.
Discussions centered on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Virtual Reality (VR) in modern education. These technologies are not only focused on enhancing campus security but also revolutionizing teaching, learning, and student engagement.
As part of the workshop, the Vice Chancellor alongside other participants received a Hikvision 65-inch 4K Ultra HD interactive flat panel designed for education, business, and professional presentations. This cutting-edge technology integrates high-resolution technology with touch features to create an engaging learning experience. It also supports student and lecturer cameras with facial recognition technology, making it ideal for online teaching and hybrid learning environments. The VC officially presented the equipment to the University Senate on Wednesday 30th January 2025.
